SIKESTON - Miss Marjorie McCoy joined the personnel at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Monday morning as a stenographer in the land division offices in the Milam building.
SIKESTON - Sikeston swimming pool will close to the general public Sept. 7, Conley Purcell, chairman of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Commerce Pool Committee, announced Saturday. Arrangements have been made for the high school to use the pool for early fall gymnasium classes.
EAST PRAIRIE - First Bank of East Prairie is holding open house Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in celebration of the completion of its newly remodeled banking quarters.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Public Schools are starting the school year with a new look this year. Larry Nickell, Middle School principal, noted the Middle School is starting a program this year to assist students in getting along better in their academic surroundings. Students have a home room to go to and the Middle School has a new roof. The social studies and English departments have been renovated for energy efficiency. Junior High Principal Harley Barnes reported several changes at his school, such as two lunch shifts instead of three and a computerized library. Also, foreign language will be taught at the Junior High.

SIKESTON - Four Sikeston tennis players recently competed in the Junior Open USTA Tennis Tournament at Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Ill., and played well. Casey Kupart was second in singles, first in doubles; Nathan Askew placed first in singles and doubles; Ben Askew was first in singles, second in doubles; and Jake Lankheit came in second in doubles.
