NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles volleyball team lost to Gideon on Tuesday in their season opener, 12-15, 9-15.

"We had some first game jitters a little bit," said NMCC head coach Sonya Pixley. "I know the ability is there, but we just didn't put it together. Gideon has improved a lot. They've got good hitters and good passers -- they're a scrappy team. I think we underestimated them a little bit."

NMCC's junior varsity lost 7-15, 10-15.

Further details from either match were not available at press time.

NMCC will play at Scott City today at 6:30 p.m.
