SIKESTON - Sgt. Wayne W. Stephens, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Stephens of Sikeston, was killed in action in Italy Nov. 10, according to a telegram from the War Department received Wednesday by the parents.

DEXTER - Jimmy Bland of the Dexter High School Bearcats has been named to the all-state first team by the sportswriters and sportscasters of the state. He joins 10 other high school athletes from all parts of the state to comprise the mythical 1963 Missouri All-State team.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Lions Club is again sponsoring its "Cartoon Carnival for Kids." The show will be at the Malco Trio Theatre and parents are welcome to attend. Admission is a can or package of non-perishable food to be distributed by the Lions Club in Christmas baskets.

SIKESTON - The Class of 1993 of the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame was inducted Saturday night. Inducted were: Howard Hooke, Gene Mayberry, Oscar "Porge" Sizemore, Herbert Hahn, Robert Redfern, Bernard Brockett, Roscoe Vaughn and Russell Martin.


SIKESTON - Both the Department of Public Safety and Public Works sought council approval for vehicle replacement but only DPS was successful. DPS Director Jim Leist presented the sole bid return for two new patrol vehicles to the city council Monday evening. Sikeston Motor Company returned a bid of $16,974 each for a pair of 1994 Ford Crown Victorias with police packages, totaling $33.948. DPS has instituted a regular replacement system for vehicles where two cars are purchased each year and kept for four years.
