SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Choir will present the 24th annual Spring Concert at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. The choir is directed by William Grega and accompanied by Nancy Bird of East Prairie. Soloists will include Ken Shields, Sherrie Dixon, Debbie Grega and Jane Flaherty. Special guest performers will be the Sikeston High School Men's Chorus. Featured soloist will be SHS senior, Jason Thomas.

BERTRAND - Once a thriving little town, located on Highway 62 - the main east-west route through this section of Southeast Missouri - Bertrand, like many small towns, is no longer a hub of activity. The stillness of small town life, however, is expected to change May 23, the date for the Bertrand reunion.

CHARLESTON - Under a cloudless blue sky and amid cheers and applause, the R-1 School District's Board of Education conducted a symbolic ground breaking ceremony at noon Thursday for the new Charleston Junior High School. "Excitement" was the central theme for the ceremony witnessed by junior high students, staff members and representatives from the city, county, Ministerial Alliance and the community.
