SIKESTON - Young women competing for the 1992 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Queen title will find themselves faced with a new pageant format. Because of a belief that the pageant was not taken seriously enough by both the contestants and the general public in the past, the Sikeston Jaycees formed a committee to assist them in restructuring the contest. "We wanted to make our queen more of a 'real cowgirl.' Our queen should be proud to represent the Jaycee Rodeo at the state and national level," explained Jeff Williams, rodeo queen chairman. This year's pageant will be divided into two competitions. The first level will be focused on riding ability and personal interview and the second stage of the contest will be competition in evening gown and western wear categories.
