SIKESTON - The Sikeston junior varsity football team improved to 2-0 on the season with its second victory against Cape Central's JV in as many weeks.

Sikeston, which defeated the Tigers 20-6 last week, won at SPS Stadium on Monday 16-8.

"It was a pretty well-played game except for at the end there when we lost a couple of fumbles," said Sikeston head coach Charlie Vickery. "We didn't have many penalties. We did what we needed to do offensively and our defense played really well. The offense is doing just enough to get some points on the board."

Sikeston scored in the second quarter following a blocked punt. Felante Larry punched it in from seven yards out with 1:36 left in the half to lead 6-0.

With 4:44 left in the third quarter, Sikeston recorded a safety when they tackled the Tigers' running back in the end zone to make it 8-0.

Sikeston moved ahead 16-0 when Larry caught a pass from quarterback Bryce Wibbenmeyer and out-ran the Tiger defenders to the end zone for a 45-yard score with 3:41 left in the third quarter.

Brandon Williams caught the two-point conversion pass from Wibbenmeyer.

The Tigers finally got on the board when quarterback Tyrone Reese scored on a 9-yard run. Reese added the two-point conversion run to pull the Tigers to 16-8 with 3:01 left.

But that was as close as they would get.

Sikeston's junior varsity will host Blytheville's junior varsity next Monday at 7 p.m.
