CHAFFEE -- The Red Devils, who have relied heavily on the pass this season, were held to 63 passing yards and fell to 0-3 with a 23-0 shutout loss on Friday night.
"They bottled our passing attack up," said Chaffee coach Allan Horrell, who said the team was also hurt by too many dropped passes on a wet field. "We came out in the first half and stopped them on a couple of drives. In the second quarter, the wheels fell off. We had a lot of passes that should have been caught. I don't think we were mentally focused."
Chaffee prepared all week for a potent Crystal City passing attack only to have Crystal City rush for 191 yards. Crystal City led 17-0 at halftime.
Justin Gadberry led the Red Devils on the ground, rushing for 22 yards on nine attempts. Nick Powderly caught six passes for 34 yards.
Crystal City running back Corey Brewer finished with 110 yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Bobby Schembre threw for 42 yards and rushed for 81.
Chaffee (0-3) will host Portageville on Friday.
