SIKESTON -- Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are investigating an assault that left a Sikeston man severely injured.
At 2:50 a.m. Saturday, a man was reported to be lying in the roadway on Hunter Street. Upon arrival officers found Dennis Cantrell, 45, lying in the roadway and bleeding from his head.
He was transported to the Missouri Delta Medical Center and later transferred to a Cape Girardeau hospital with severe brain bleeding.
There are no suspects at this time and the major case squad has been called in to investigate. Cantrell was last seen at Cheers on Friday night and detectives are asking anyone who had contact with him while he was at the business or after he left to contact DPS at 471-1500.
