SIKESTON - Capt. Robert S. Johnson, 24-year-old flier from Lawton, Okla., and former cadet of the Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment at Sikeston, bagged his 26th and 27th German planes in a sky battle over Germany on May 8 to become the first American pilot in Europe to surpass the outstanding record set by Capt. Edward Rickenbacker, with 26 aerial kills in World War 1.

EAST PRAIRIE - The annual Eighth Grade Tea, sponsored by the Junior Civic Club and honoring graduating eighth grade girls at the A.L. Webb Junior High School was held Monday night in the school cafeteria. During the event, which was attended by 38 girls, their mothers and six teachers, mother-daughter look-alikes were chosen. Winners were Dana Cave and her mother, Darlene Cave. First runners-up were Tina Haddock and her mother, Frances Haddock and second runners-up were Kim Melton and her mother, Paula Melton.

SIKESTON - A Little Lady Bug pageant was conducted recently for ages 10-12. Winners were: second alternate, Denise Mulcahy of Sikeston, daughter of Debbie Mulcahy; queen, Melissa Dawn Marquis of Bloomfield, daughter of Shawn and Jackie Marquis; first alternate, Meghan Dover of Bell City, daughter of Johnny and Kay Dover.


SIKESTON - Melanie C. Lankheit recently received a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. She was named to the dean's list for the 1993 fall semester.
