DEXTER - Gwendolyn F. Alsup, 78, died Nov. 23, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 1, 1925, in Jiles County, Tenn., to the late Elvin Stanford and Maudie Johnson Stanford, she was a nurse for many years and a resident of Dexter.

On Dec. 16, 1939, at Charleston she married Harold T. Alsup, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Harold J. Alsup of Bloomfield and Richard T. Alsup of Dexter; one daughter, Carroll Ann Dowdy of Matthews; one sister, Betty Jo Matte of Crestview, Fla.; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Gardner will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.
