SIKESTON - Lee Lawrence, who has served two terms as city councilman from Ward Three, isn't deterred by the cold weather from thinking ahead until April 6 when another city election will be held. He announced his candidacy for re-election to a third term in the office. Lawrence was the first to offer for office in the election.

SIKESTON - Playing an outstanding offensive and defensive game, the Sikeston Bulldogs downed the Poplar Bluff Mules by a score of 63-53.

SIKESTON - The Department of Public Safety has issued its monthly activity and crime report with information and statistics compiled from records maintained in January. The department received 227 reports in January and the offense categories and clearance rates included: 26 burglaries, of which 16 were cleared for a 62 percent clearance rate; 78 larcenies, of which 15 were cleared for a 19 percent clearance rate; one rape which was cleared for a 100 percent clearance rate and four auto thefts of which one was cleared for a 25 percent clearance rate.
