SIKESTON - Vivian Hough, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hough of Charleston., was selected queen of the 1962 Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo in competition conducted Friday night at the Armory. She is a junior at Charleston High School and was sponsored by the Crenshaw Distributing Company of Sikeston.
NEW MADRID - A New Madrid girl recently placed in the Missouri Miss Teenage America Pageant. Beth Fowler, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fowler, was awarded third place in the state competition.
NEW MADRID - A routine traffic stop apparently led to drug charges being filed against a driver. Sheriff Deputy Tim Collins stopped a vehicle at 11:37 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 61, south of New Madrid. After receiving permission to search the car, Collins found 12 small bags, believed to contain marijuana. The driver, whose name has not been released, has been taken into custody.
