Lady Hawks topple Chaffee, 64-54

CHAFFEE - The Kelly girls basketball team improved to 15-4 on the season with a 64-54 win against Chaffee on Tuesday.

The Lady Hawks trailed 29-26 at the half but were able to pull out the win with a big second half.

But it was Chaffee's Jennifer Vandeven, who scored 17 points, that garnered praise from Kelly head coach Rod McQuerter.

"Jennifer Vandeven is a very outstanding player," he said. "I hope to see her playing in college next year. She makes her teammates better. We feel very good in getting a win against a quality opponent like Chaffee with a great player like Vandeven."

Kelly was led by Dana Essner's 19 points. Kelly Essner added 12 points.

Kelly will host New Madrid County Central on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Kelly's junior varsity team improved to 13-3 on the season with a 50-21 win against Chaffee's jayvee.
