DONIPHAN -- Danny Kellas and Shane Talburt scored 30 points each, leading Doniphan to an 86-64 win over New Madrid County Central on Friday night.

"It's one of the worst defensive efforts I've ever been a part of," said NMCC head coach David Fields. "Danny Kellas had three 3s in the first quarter, and we still haven't found him yet. We just lost him coming down the floor. A kid that averages 25 points, you think you would know where he is at all times."

The Eagles held a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 36-32 at halftime.

The Dons then outscored NMCC 50-32 in the second half to pull out the win.

Behind Kellas and Talburt, Michael Pigg scored 12 points for Doniphan. NMCC was led by Mack Kimble with 16 and Michael Rose with 13.

The Eagles (6-11) played Marshall County in the Massac County Shootout on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.

CHAFFEE - The Chaffee Red Devils basketball team lost to Scott County Central on Friday night with a 97-68 defeat.

The Red Devils (1-12) fell behind early and never recovered. Scott Central led 24-13 after one quarter and 42-27 at the half. The Braves extended the lead to 67-41 entering the fourth quarter.

The Braves were led by Chris Pullen with 18 points and Chris Monroe with 17 points.

Matt Holman added 15 and Avis White, a transfer from Sikeston, came off the bench for a season-high 11 points.

Sam Burnett led the Red Devils with 21 points while James Reischman added 19 points.

"Scott Central came in tonight and shot the ball extremely well, inside and outside," said Chaffee head coach David Mirly. "We did a good job of getting to the free throw line, but we need to hit a better percentage. If we can get to the free throw line like we've been doing, we will make them eventually and that will benefit us."

Chaffee will play top-seeded Meadow Heights on Monday in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament at 8:30 p.m.

Scott Central will host Oran on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

CARDWELL -- The Risco Tigers recorded their fourth win in a row Friday night when they dismantled the Southland Rebels 89-40. The win also was their fourth Tri-County conference victory of the season.

Kyle Carlisle led the onslaught for the visitors with 24 points while teammates Greg Lasters added 16 and Luke Carter contributed 16. Nine players got into the scoring act for Risco.

For Southland, two players reached double figures: Gabe Haugh had 12 and Zack Matheny scored 10.

Tiger Coach Brandon Blankenship called it a total team effort, and was happy that his team was able to work on some different things in the contest.

Risco will host North Pemiscot in their next encounter on Tuesday.
