SIKESTON - Harry Eugene Batts, 65, died April 19, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born Oct. 9, 1936, in Fulton, Ky., son of the late Arlie and Emily Thompson Batts, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a teacher with Sikeston Public Schools for 27 years before retiring and was a member of the Miner Fire Department.

His first wife, Rena Jane Ligon Batts, preceded him in death on May 23, 1991.

On Aug. 30, 1991, he married Mella Copous Parker who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons, Lowell Batts of Ripley, Tenn., Steve Batts of Havlock, N.C., and Michael Batts of Sikeston; one daughter, Pam Robertson of Bernie; and three stepchildren, four grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Delbert Bishop and the Rev. Brian Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Lee Pigg, Tony Northern, James Nance, Jaret Farmer, Randy Thompson and Bobby Galewood.
