Delta standout scores 36 points with 15 boards

MORLEY -- Rebecca Below had a career night in Delta's final game of the regular-season on Thursday night, scoring 36 points with 15 rebounds in the Lady Bobcats' 78-54 win over Scott Central.

"She's a heck of a player," said Delta head coach Randy White. "She played a really good game."

Sarah Cook contributed 17 points for Delta and Rebecca Cook finished with 15. Stephanie Mason paced Scott Central with 18 points. Brittany Godwin finished with 10. Felicia Winston and Jennifer Hoots each contributed nine points.

The Bravettes (10-10) will face Oran in the first round of the 1A District 2 Tournament on Saturday, while Delta (18-6) plays Risco at 2:30 p.m.

ORAN -- The Lady Hawks won the Scott-Mississippi Conference title outright Thursday, beating Oran 54-37 to finish undefeated in the division.

"I'm very proud of the girls for winning the Scott-Miss Conference championship," said Kelly coach Rod McQuerter. "It was a very big win. Each girl on the team had a chance to participate tonight and played as a team."

Dana Essner led Kelly with 12 points, followed by Ashley Kern with 11. Maria Eftink paced Oran with 18.

"We don't have any superstars on our team," said McQuerter. "We just have a bunch of girls who want to work hard."

Kelly (21-4) will face Puxico in the first round of 2A District 2 play at Bloomfield on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Oran will play Scott Central on Saturday in 1A District 2.

CHARLESTON -- Charleston ended the regular-season with a 69-40 win over Caruthersville on Thursday.

The Lady Bluejays led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, then pulled away with a 24-8 run in the second period.

"We changed our defense from full to half-court," explained head coach Beverly Wright, whose team improves to 20-3.

Missy Whitney led the charge with 22 points, followed by Monisha Murray with 19 and Tyshanta Williams with 16. Niesha Jones led Caruthersville with 12 and Leola Jones finished with 11.

Charleston will face Chaffee in the first round of the 2A District 2 Tournament at Bloomfield on Saturday at 3 p.m.
