SIKESTON - The Sikeston girls' softball team ended its season on a losing note The team dropped a 3-2 decision to top-seeded Cape Central. The win was the 20th in a row for Cape Central.

MINER - A dispute between Police Chief Tom Mitchell and Mayor Bill James marked an otherwise routine meeting of the Miner Board of Aldermen Tuesday evening. City Hall was packed with observers at the board's reviewed salaries and reappointed city officials. When the board discussed salaries and it appeared that police department employees would not receive substantial raises, Mitchell expressed concern.

MATTHEWS - Andy Geske and fellow Boy Scout David Beaird completed Geske's Eagle Scout project at Sells Nursing Home. Geske has completed all required merit badges for his Eagle Scout award. He has been a member of Troop 40 in Sikeston since 1987, earning 25 merit badges and attending Camp Lewellen for four years. For his Eagle service project, Geske and several helpers painted, erected and landscaped the flag pole. In keeping with a patriotic theme, the pole e was painted white, with red and blue flowers surrounding it.
