PALMYRA - Virgil G. Vaughn, son of former Sikeston residents Mr. and Mrs. Alva Vaughn, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marines Nov. 8 at Quantico, Va.

LILBOURN - A drive to collect toys and clothing in the Lilbourn High School was announced today by Jimmy Wilson, president of the school's Student Council. Wilson is asking students to bring toys and clothing which they have outgrown to the school by Dec. 18. Donations will be distributed to the needy on Christmas Eve by members of Lilbourn's Boy Scout Troop No. 90.

NEW MADRID - Lori Mitchem, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Mitchem of Portageville, was crowned Junior Miss Snowflake Saturday evening. Winter Princess is Jayna Jackson, 15, daughter of Howard and Betty Jackson of Sikeston. Taking top honors as Little Miss Snowflake and Mr. Jack Frost were Kelli Michelle Hall, 3, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hall of Hayti; and Danny Ray Ivie, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Ivie Sr. of Portageville.

CHARLESTON - Charleston never missed a beat and New Madrid County Central never got in the game. The Blue Jays opened a 20-8 first quarter lead and never looked back, as Charleston bounced the Eagles 58-31 in the third place game of the Sikeston Invitational Friday night.


NEW MADRID - Visitors enjoyed a candlelight tour of the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site Saturday. Delecia Huitt, historic site administrator, greeted guests in the entry hall while volunteers dressed in authentic costumes gave narratives of the home's history.
