SIKESTON - Plans were made Wednesday night at a meeting held at the armory to form an auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Sikeston. It is planned to hold charter night for the new auxiliary Dec. 3.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Chapter 137 Order of the Eastern Star was opened in regular form Nov. 14 with Mrs. Guy Comer, worthy matron, presiding. The annual election was held and officers for the coming year were installed.

NEW MADRID - In apparent frustration over the loss of control over rates the New Madrid City Council tabled a cable television rate increase request Monday evening. Larry Spangler, vice president of Cable World Inc. of Sikeston, explained to the council the Federal Communications Commission has recently ruled the local and state government may set only the basic rates.


MOREHOUSE - Several area farmers who attended a meeting here Monday night concerning on-farm fuel alcohol production expressed interest in participating in the proposed system of farm-sized operations.

SIKESTON - With Thanksgiving only three days away, Kmart gave their Thanksgiving Food Baskets to needy families in Sikeston on Monday. This is the seventh year of the annual program which this year will feed 22 families.


SIKESTON - For decades, Americans bought it, used it, pitched it. That behavior is about to change. Thanks to Senate Bill 530, Missourians are going to be pushed into recycling plastics, glass, paper and other materials.
