SIKESTON - Mrs. F.S. Winford, who has been living in Memphis, Tenn., the past year, has accepted a position as saleslady at the Vogue Dress Shop and assumed her duties there Monday morning.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - Three does were shot in 15 minutes by three Sikeston deer hunters Saturday morning. One of the hunters was 14-year-old Barry Greer, who killed a deer with his first shot on his first deer hunting trip.


MORLEY - The cornerstone for the new temple for Morley Lodge No. 184 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons was laid at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Grand Master Arthur U. Goodman Jr. of Kennett in charge.

NEW MADRID - Landscaping on the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site is under way. A grant for nearly $7,000 from the Small Business Association made the purchase of trees and bushes possible.

SIKESTON - Altrusa International Inc. and the Women's Division of Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 1993 Woman of the Year Banquet. Entry forms to nominate the Woman of the Year are available. This year's theme will be "Package 'Service' for Christmas."


NEW MADRID - Everyone may listen in the commercials when E.F. Hutton talks, but around the hallways and classrooms of New Madrid County Central High School, Stacy Allred holds their attention when the conversation turns to the stock market. Allred garnered national attention when she was listed Monday in the top 10 high school students taking part in the AT&T Collegiate Investment Challenge, which provides students with a realistic look at the world of high finance.
