SIKESTON - Jack Kelly Jr. of Hayti, a licensed embalmer, has joined the staff of the Welsh Funeral Home, as funeral director and embalmer. Born in Sikeston, he lived here until he reached teen-age.
SIKESTON - George Blackburn, chairman of the Rodeo Queen contest for the 10th annual Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, Sept. 13-16 inclusive, urges all those organizations and/or individuals who may be planning to enter candidates in this year's contest for the rodeo crown not to delay any further.
SIKESTON - Homer Stallings, a 12-year employee of The Daily Standard, has been appointed publisher and general manager of the daily newspaper. He assumed his new duties Monday.
SIKESTON - No company enjoys the prospect selecting employees from an illiterate work force, but Cargill Inc. did something about it. The grain-buying and -selling company donated $100,000 to the American Library Association in January, kicking off the family literacy program "Cargill Cares." In communities across the United States, Cargill workers, libraries and public schools are banding together to assure literacy in future generations. A team of employees met recently to plan raffle ticket sales strategy. All money raised through raffle ticket sales will be divided among seven public schools in southeast Missouri and one in Arkansas.
