Roy Carroll

LILBOURN - Roy W. "Petey" Carroll, 84, died June 13, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 20, 1918, son of the late Roy Carroll and Maggie Carroll Koessel, he graduated from Lilbourn High School and was a veteran of World War II. He retired as a fireman from the Blytheville (Ark.) Air Force Base and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lilbourn.

On Dec. 30, 1939, he married Marcella Riggs who preceded him in death on July 21, 2000.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Royce Jean and Jim Reaves of Risco; one brother, Charles Carroll of Sikeston; one sister, Justine Ludeman of St. Charles; three grandchildren and their spouses, Wayne and Carrie Cox of Bartlett, Tenn., Aneliese and Keith Kennedy of Catron and Michele and Brandon Knight of Risco; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Kennedy of Catron, Hunter Knight and Caitlin Knight of Risco, Brittany Cox of Bartlett and Jameson Kennedy of Malden; and six nephews and one niece.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Billy Cox.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday.

American Legion Post 595 of New Madrid will conduct graveside military rites at Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
