SIKESTON - Advertisements being sold and donations being solicited for a Sikeston Department of Public Safety DARE calendar in the area are not legitimate, according to Drew Juden, director of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

"I don't want people to think they're donating to us when they're not," he explained. "If anybody is donating or being contacted, we want them to know it is not authorized by our department."

Juden said he and the DPS were approached by a company called Cape Calendar over just such a project, but he declined - several times.

If DPS were to authorize such a calendar, they would do it using a Sikeston printing company, Juden said.

Juden said it appears he will be forced to seek legal action to get the company to stop using the Sikeston DPS and the Sikeston DARE program names to solicit without authorization.

If anyone has any questions about this matter, they are asked to call Juden or Shirley Porter, Sikeston DARE officer, at 471-6200.
