NEW MADRID - Two new physicians will join the staff at the Semo Health Network.
Dr. Jyoti Kulkarni will provide family practice care at the Sikeston Family Clinic beginning in the summer of 2004. Dr. Ilyas Burny, a pediatrician, will join Semo Health Network in 2004 also and will see patients at the Sikeston Family Clinic and the Portageville Family Clinic.

A native of India, Kulkarni completed medical school at the University of Bombay. She served a family practice clinical clerkship a Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Hospital and a pediatric junior residency at Gowandi Peripheral Hospital in Bombay as well as a dermatology residency at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal before coming to the United States. Currently, Kulkarni is a family practice resident at the State University of New York in Buffalo.
Also a native of India, Burny is a pediatrician who graduated from the medical school of Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. Burny completed residencies at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. After coming to the United States, Burny completed his pediatric residency at Michigan State University where he served as chief resident. Currently Burny is completing a pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.
In addition to announcing the new physicians, the SEMO Health Network's White announced the group obtained over $3 million in medication assistance for its qualifying patients through the year ending Sept. 30.
According to White, SEMO Health Network works closely with pharmaceutical companies and their medication assistance programs to obtain medication for patients who financially qualify for assistance. Those qualifications include household size and household income and are based on federal guidelines.
