SIKESTON - Dora Ann Dunn, an 18-year-old brunette of medium build, will reign this year as queen over Sikeston High School's annual May Fete.

SIKESTON - Once again, Sikeston has been honored by the Automobile Club of Missouri for the city's outstanding record in pedestrian safety insofar as it concerns children of school age. The AAA has again awarded a certificate stating Sikeston is on the Honor Roll of Cities.


SIKESTON - After being buried under a concrete floor slab for more than 30 minutes Wednesday, Michael Hicks, 13, and Tommy Lee Brasenell, 14, are alive largely because of the presence of mind their 12-year-old companion, Lindell Eakins. According to reports, two of the boys were digging a tunnel last week under the floor slab of an abandoned barn floor when suddenly the concrete slab broke and fell on them. Eakins ran to his home and called the police.

CHARLESTON - The 1982 basketball season was one to remember for everyone in southeast Missouri, especially Charleston. The high school team, their coach and two alumni had outstanding years and will be among those honored at the Banquet of Champions to be held at the Charleston High School Commons this Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

CHARLESTON - Relaying what he termed "knock down, drag out" complaints fired at the directors of the Private Industry Council at a recent meeting of the Southeast Missouri Association of Commissioners, Presiding Commissioner Fred DeField on Thursday asked the other commissioners to consider attending a special meeting April 29 at the Drury Inn in Cape Girardeau. DeField said he felt the PIC directors wanted to do away with DAEOC.
