CHARLESTON - Commencement exercises for the largest class to ever to graduate from Charleston High School were held May 28 at 8 p.m. at the Charleston football field. There was a large crowd present to see the 151 graduating seniors. Valedictorian was Lee DeLaney and Pat Wallace was salutatorian.

SIKESTON - Sikeston pole vaulter Matt Heckemeyer, who finished third among 4A competition in last weekend's Missouri Track Meet, has been invited to compete in Saturday's Bud Light Invitational meet. The meet will bring the best high school athletes from surrounding states to Florissant Valley College in St. Louis. Also invited were two other state qualifiers from Sikeston, sprinters Bridgett Robinson and Karlos Draper, who will not compete Saturday.

BENTON - A deadline has been given John Stephenson, owner of the SEMO Waste Management, to clean up the tires piled on his Highway 77 property. The Department of Natural Resources has arrived at an agreement with Stephenson. According to Pat Dwyer, DNR environmental specialist, Stephenson is to have the tires turned into shredded piles of rubber by Aug. 1.

SIKESTON - The Fleming Division at Sikeston was presented the Fleming Golden Pyramid Award for being the safest division of the 44 Fleming Divisions nationwide. The associates of the Sikeston Division had the least combined lost time injury frequency and severity rate per miles for 1994.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Kindergarten Center recently announced the students with the best citizenship. Honored were Mark Williamson, Trace White, Chelsea Aldrich, Brittany Worley, Brandon Burrows, Brandon Wright, Amy Parker, William Chappell and Brittany Parker.
