It takes something special to get me mad but it takes much less simply to upset me. The National Education Association (NEA) teachers' union has me mad. If you read their garbage recommendation on how teachers should handle the upcoming Sept. 11 anniversary, you'll be mad as hell too.
The NEA - an ultra-liberal teachers' union - has urged its member teachers to mark the anniversary of the tragic day by "discussing historical instances of American intolerance" so that the American public can avoid "repeating terrible mistakes." I swear to you that's the content and words on the NEA website. They have warned their teacher members to "not suggest that any group is responsible" for the attacks and instead, take a blame-America approach to discussing the anniversary.
Fortunately members of the education community are much smarter than the NEA leaders and have said in unison that they will discuss the truth about the Sept. 11 events and not some liberal bias handed down from the NEA executives.
The American Federation of Teachers said their group strongly disagrees with the NEA agenda and "does not support a blame-America approach in particular and wishes to distance itself from the entire (NEA) document." Thank goodness that logic and common sense and truth prevail.
The NEA is the largest teachers' union in the nation. That in itself is frightening. To think that these powerful educators can slant the truth to a group of impressionable children is beyond frightening.
Of course, as expected, the guidelines for the NEA position were developed in California. And when confronted with their despicable view of the Sept. 11 tragedies this week, the NEA defended its position. That takes arrogance to a new level.
You wonder why we have problems in this nation? You wonder why some of those problems center on the school systems? Look to the NEA and their anti-American stance to find the answer.
