BLOOMFIELD - Jake Leon Pounds, 83, died April 7, 2004, at his home.
Born June 21, 1920, at Ward, Ark., son of the late Jacob Levi and Gertrude Anderson Pounds, he was a member of the Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church near Bloomfield. He retired in 1967 as a chief petty officer for the U.S. Navy. He was employed by the W.E. Sears Youth Center, retiring in 1985.
His first wife, Rita Skelton, preceded him in death on June 12, 1997.
He later married Audrey DeBerry who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons, David Pounds of New Madrid, Phillip Pounds of Dexter and Van Pounds of Jefferson City; one daughter, Marilyn Hester of Bloomfield; four stepdaughters, Teresa Gulley of Bloomfield, Ruby Cox and Cathy Duke of Brighton, Tenn., and Debbi Benson of Union City, Tenn.; one brother, Thomas Pounds of Dearborn, Mich.; one sister, Rita DeMay of Dearborn; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
One son, Timothy Pounds, also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Robert Gardner will officiate.
Graveside military rites will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
