CANALOU - Charles Nelson Lumsden, 88, died April 6, 2004, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. Born May 23, 1915, in Landers Ridge, son of the late Charles C. and Ora B. Wilmurth Lumsden, he was a graduate of Matthews High School and a retired farmer. CANALOU - Charles Nelson Lumsden, 88, died April 6, 2004, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born May 23, 1915, in Landers Ridge, son of the late Charles C. and Ora B. Wilmurth Lumsden, he was a graduate of Matthews High School and a retired farmer. A lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Matthews, where he had served as an elder and treasurer, he was also a member of the Gideons.

On Feb. 12, 1936, in Anniston, he married Leola M. Spalding who preceded him in death on June 6, 1997. He and Vearnies Ellen Landers were married Aug. 18, 2000, and she died Jan. 7, 2004.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ruth Ann Lumsden of Dexter; one brother, John L. Lumsden of Poplar Bluff; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Harold Q. Lumsden and Donald K. Lumsden, also preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Caston Counts, former pastor of the Matthews First Christian Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
