New Madrid County Central's golf team fought Caruthersville to a 171-171 tie on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles were led by Trey Edwards with a three-over 39. Everett Gee was steady as usual, checking in at 41. Grant Atchley finished at 45, and Shane Grissom rounded out the team's scoring at 46.
"We're still trying to find where we are," said NMCC coach Sherry Copeland. "We're not having all my top players score at the same time, so we're still kind of struggling. Gee is consistent for us right now. Edwards shot a really good score today, but he has been up and down the last two weeks. Atchley worked on his game over Spring Break and has been turning in some really good scores lately. Hopefully heading down the home stretch we can get to where we need to be."
Caruthersville's Bobby Ayers was the low medalist of the match, shooting a 38. He was followed by Todd Abbott and John Cox at 44, then Derrick Barnett with a 45.
NMCC will travel to Sikeston today for a match at the Bootheel Golf Club.
Poplar Bluff 151, Dexter 160
DEXTER - Dexter's golf team was fortunate, or unfortunate, enough to host the hottest team in southeast Missouri on Tuesday, falling to Poplar Bluff 151-160.
"Poplar Bluff has a tremendous golf team," said Dexter coach Eric Sitze. "We had a pretty good round and we finished nine strokes behind."
Matt Hillis led the Mules on the par-36 course with a one-under 35. He was followed by teammates Ben Brummitt at 37, Nick Devine at 39, and Josh Love at 40.
Kyle Christian recently rejoined Dexter's team, and led the Bearcats with a 38. Ryan Jackson finished at 39, followed by Matt Christian at 41, and Brett Hale at 42.
Dexter will compete in a quadrangular match at Notre Dame today, starting at 4 p.m.
