CHARLESTON -- With sunny, windy conditions and the temperature near 80 degrees, a record 149 runners competed in the 29th Dogwood Azalea 5K race. Christian Sanchez of Cape Girardeau won the male division with a sparkling time of 15:23 and Adela Sams of Jackson was the female winner in 21:41...

CHARLESTON -- With sunny, windy conditions and the temperature near 80 degrees, a record 149 runners competed in the 29th Dogwood Azalea 5K race. Christian Sanchez of Cape Girardeau won the male division with a sparkling time of 15:23 and Adela Sams of Jackson was the female winner in 21:41.

The youth race attracted a record 37 participants with Madelyine Ohmes taking first in the 5-7 age group, Layton Jones placing first in the 8-10 age group and Blake Caryle winning the 11-13 age group.

A whopping 38 local runners from Charleston finished the 5K course. Delbert Marriott won the Jackson Burke Trophy, which is given to the first Charleston male runner. Marriott finished with a time of 17:43.

Bethany Brown, who finished with a time of 23:02, won the Corse's Cup, which recognizes the first Charleston female runner.
