BRENTWOOD - Crawford Winston Edwards Jr., 70, formerly of Charleston, died at 6:24 p.m. June 11, 2004, at his home.

Born June 2, 1934, in Charleston, son of the late Crawford W. and Tishie Elizabeth Marable Edwards Sr., he was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau and graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Murray State (Ky.) University. After teaching students in Louisville (Ky.) Public Schools for many years, he was a visual arts instructor and later became district coordinator for visual arts for the Clayton School District, retiring in 1991. He earned a master of arts degree from Webster University in St. Louis. He served in various capacities with national, state and local art educational organizations devoted to visual arts, including the Missouri Art Education Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriners, was also a Shriner clown and member of the Baptist Church of Rock Hill and Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Survivors include: two sisters and one brother-in-law, Peggy Ann White of Charleston and Jo Elizabeth and Ray Wheatley of Warren, Mich.; one niece, Elizabeth Ann Kay; two nephews, Robert Dale Killian and Larry Wayne Wheatley; and four great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until service time at 1 p.m. at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Jim Malugen, pastor of the First Christian Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
