SIKESTON - There is now a new face to attract business and industry in Sikeston as Edward J. Dust has been named the city's new director of economic development.
The announcement came in a statement released by Sikeston City Manager Doug Friend Monday afternoon.
Dust has worked in economic development since 1972, having served as the executive vice president of the Paragould Chamber of Commerce, West Memphis Chamber of Commerce and most recently the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce.
More than 25 people from the five-state area applied for the position. A citizens' committee reviewed the resumes and submitted a group of candidates for consideration by the Sikeston City Council.
A selection committee made of City Council and Board of Municipal Utilities members and the Sikeston city manager interviewed the finalists.
"We interviewed a number of talented economic development professionals during our director's search," said Sikeston Mayor Mike Marshall. "We believe Ed Dust has the background and knowledge to successfully market Sikeston's offerings. The city looks forward to Ed joining our team."
Dust will assume his new position on June 2.
