Toby Sherfield

DEXTER - Norman "Toby" Sherfield, 83, died June 9, 2002, at his home.

Born April 30, 1919, in Bernie, son of the late Otis and Iva Jo Hunt Sherfield, he was a lifelong resident of Dexter and retired from the Dexter Street Department after 31 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Baptist belief.

On Sept. 4, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married Melba J. Fulkerson who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons, Roy Sherfield and Ronnie Sherfield of Dexter and David Sherfield of Essex; two daughters, Barbara Hill of Dexter and Norma Corlew of Essex; one stepdaughter, Dena Lyons of Dexter; one brother, Russell Sherfield of Dexter; one sister, Florine Dowdy of Dexter; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one son, Terry Sherfield; one brother, Henry Sherfield; and one grandson, Bryan Lee Sherfield.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
