DEXTER - Laura Matthews, 91, died Nov. 6, 2003, at the Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 24, 1912, in Dexter, daughter of the late George Washington and Martha Ann Cooper Miller, she was a member of Sadlers Chapel Methodist and United Methodist Church in Dexter. She was also a member of the Walnut Lane Extension Club.

On May 17, 1931, at Waterloo, Ill., she married Frank Cranston Matthews who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1983.

Survivors include: one daughter, Marianne C. Sperling of Jackson; two granddaughters, Linda Gail Drew and Rhonda Jean Matthews of Alabama; six great-grandchildren, Randall Scott Drew, stationed with the U.S. Army in Colorado and Amanda Drew Simpson, Justin Gabriel Drew, Laura Leigh Drew of Alabama, Bryce Allen Jernigan and Alicia Marie Jernigan of Alabama; and one nephew, Lloyd H. Anderson of Dexter.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Fred M. Matthews; three brothers, Marvin C. Miller, Harla B. Miller and Walter A. Miller; and one sister, Sybil S. Anderson.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Samuel Roethemeyer will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
