SIKESTON - Mrs. Louise Trickey has accepted the position as stenographer in the law office here of Bailey and Bailey. She replaces Miss Bonnie Hazel, who has taken a position in the area office of the Farm Security Administration.

SIKESTON - Crowned Queen of the American Legion's 18th Annual Cotton Carnival Saturday noon was Miss Kathryn Day of Charleston, who was crowned by Warren E. Hearnes of Charleston, secretary of state for Missouri, who performed the official ceremony with the crowning of the new queen. Queen Kathryn was the candidate of the Charleston Lions Club.

SIKESTON - SIKESTON - The United Way goal poster was put in place Wednesday morning at the intersection of Main and Malone. Harvey Cooper, director of the Community Sheltered Workshop, is chairman of the project. It will be his duty to keep the chart up to date as to the amount attained to achieve its goal of $46,425.

NEW MADRID - Southeast Missouri residents will have the opportunity to discuss how Missouri schools can define and implement "world-class" academic standards in the future during a meeting with state education officials. The final of 10 regional meetings conducted during September and October will be conducted from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 at New Madrid County Central High School.
