SIKESTON -- Sikeston lost a tough conference match to Scott City on Monday, falling in three sets.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to win the first set 15-10, but lost the second 11-15, then dropped the third 6-15.
"This was an important conference match," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler. "After we beat Scott City in the finals of the SEMO Conference Tournament, we knew they would want to get us back. I was pleased overall with the way we played, but we had some lapses at crucial times that hurt. Scott City pulled it out and got their revenge."
Sikeston ran out of substitutions in an extremely long first set. The Lady Bulldogs had already used 12 subs when the score was at 5-5. Sikeston was able to pull away and win 15-10.
After three sideouts in the second set, Scott City served up five straight points. The Lady Bulldogs got as close as one point, but Scott City was able to pull out a 15-11 win.
In the decisive set, Scott City pulled away late to win 15-6 and take the overall match.
"It was close until the end," said Beydler. "They had one server at the end that scored 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 to put it away. It was a big letdown to us. The girls actually played fairly well."
Joy Daniel served three points and one ace with four kills and three blocks. Rachael Vining had two points, five kills and two blocks. Paige Kaiser had four kill and one block.
Berneatress Hunt had two kills and five blocks. Maggie Pfefferkorn served nine points, Erin Box had eight, Emily Slayten had four and Lindsey Davis contributed three.
