SIKESTON - Two Sikeston men were arrested in connection with Monday's shooting incident in Sikeston. SIKESTON - Two Sikeston men were arrested in connection with Monday's shooting incident in Sikeston.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden, the incident took place in the 800 block of Ruth Street. Witnesses reported shots were fired after an argument involving approximately 10 people at 808 Ruth St. According to reports, two persons had guns and fired about 30 rounds in the heavily populated neighborhood.

A thorough investigation led to three vehicles being towed, two occupied houses and three vacant houses in the area were searched and six people were arrested.

James Cooper of 808 Ruth St. was charged with second degree drug trafficking and unlawful use of a weapon. Travis Williams is charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action. Both suspects remain in custody with bond set at $250,000 each.

Juden said approximately 14 grams of crack cocaine were found during the search at Cooper's residence, which resulted in the trafficking charge. He said a SKS assault rifle was recovered in some bushes near the residence.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges and arrests are expected.
