COLUMBIA - Loomis Mayfield Jr. left a hospital at Columbia Sunday, where he had received treatment for a cut on the ear and a head concussion sustained in a recent automobile accident. He is a student at the University of Missouri.

SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Ira Shuffit will take part in the White House Regional Conference to be held in St. Louis Tuesday and Wednesday. The St. Louis Conference is one of a series in the country in which top federal officials will meet with state and local officials and interested citizens to make plans for "future developments," in the words of President Kennedy.

SIKESTON - The first year of the HELP Assistance Center to Counter Sexual Assault has been gratifying to those involved. The center was officially begun Nov. 14, 1980, when its 24-hour rape crisis hotline was put into service. Through the efforts of Missouri Delta Community Hospital, the group was able to set up a 24-hour emergency number, 471-RAPE.

SIKESTON - As a result of the severity and number of animal abuse cases in the area, changes are being made in the law and officials say individuals involved in the abuses will soon receive their just reward. According to Larry Wills, code enforcement officer for the City of Sikeston, charges are just around the corner.


SIKESTON - A fake bank examiner scam is being or has been conducted in the city, according to a report from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Lt. Bob Gee of the Criminal Investigation Unit said that local citizens have been contacted by a man claiming to be an auditor investigating unusual bank practices.
