PUXICO -- Harrell Verdell Grindstaff, 79, died Jan. 29, 2005, at Puxico Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1925, in Arab, son of the late John and Louella Grindstaff, he had spent 30 years in Alton, Ill., and returned to Puxico in 1974. He retired from Lacled Steele in Alton and was a member of the Brown General Baptist Church near Puxico.
On Dec. 24, 1943, at Marble Hill, he married Lorene Lou Hastings who preceded him in death on July 18, 1988.
On March 28, 1990, in Puxico, he married Odean Rowe who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Shelby Rodgers and Nancy Bivens of Bethalto, Ill., Jeanie Adams of Portageville and Jennifer Baskett of Columbia; two brothers, Norman Grindstaff of Jerseyville, Ill., and Carl Grindstaff of East Alton; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and first wife were: one son, Johnny Grindstaff; one daughter, Shirley Jean Grindstaff; one great-granddaughter, Melissa Rodgers; two brothers, Hassel Grindstaff and Everett Grindstaff; and one sister, Jewel Grable.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown General Baptist Church in Puxico with the Rev. Johnny Buttry of Puxico officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery near Puxico.
