KENNETT -- The Sikeston Bulldogs golf team shot their best round of the season en route to winning the quad meet hosted by Kennett Tuesday afternoon.
Sikeston won the event by posting a 170, followed by NMCC (181), Kennett (189) and Doniphan (197).
Bill Green and Clayton Mayfield were the medalists on the day each shooting 42s. De Bizzell and Dustin Hampton each shot 43 to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
"We have been looking forward to getting all the golfers scoring better and today was one of those days," said Sikeston golf coach Rick Oetting. "We would like to see what we could do without strong winds, but you have to make do with what nature throws at you."
On Monday, Sikeston's Dakota Trevino and Bill Green finished in a tie for sixth place at the Sikeston Invitational 4-ball tournament, a 14-team event which was hosted by the Sikeston Country Club.
"What is unusual about this tournament is the players play as a two-man team scoring the low players ball for each hole to make the final score for the pair," Oetting said. "(Monday) the wind was a factor in many of the scores."
Taking first place was the team of Tanner McKinney and Eddie Courville of Clearwater with an even par 71. Second place was the duo of T.J. Smith and A.J. Balsman of Jackson with a74. Dexter's Chance Holden and Luke Rhine shot a 75 to finish third while fourth place was captured by Notre Dame's pair of Brett Slaten and John Oliver with a 76. Trevino and Green shot a 78 for their sixth place finish.
"The boys looked better (Monday) than they have been in the past few weeks," Oetting said. "This could be our week to break out, just in time for next week's district play."
Sikeston will play their last regular season match today at Cape Central with district tournament set for Tuesday at Eagle Lake.
