FARMINGTON - The Sikeston girls tennis team lost to a strong Farmington squad on Tuesday, 8-1.

Sikeston was never really close in any of the matches other than their lone win, a Valerie Haman 8-5 victory over Jenny Beffu.

"Farmington is undefeated right now," said Sikeston head coach Suzanne Hart, whose team falls to 7-5. "They are the toughest team we've seen. They have excellent ball placement and ball control. We were just beaten by a better team."

In singles, No. 1 Elizabeth Killion lost 2-8 to Kate Karraker; No. 2 Lindsay Leible lost 3-8 to Ashley Denman; No. 3 Heather Hester lost 2-8 to Lauren Paulk; No. 5 Erin Shelton lost 3-8 to Heather Isbell; and No. 6 Rachel Colwick lost 3-8 to Nicole Kofron.

In doubles, Killion and Leible were defeated 3-8 by Karraker and Denman; Hester and Shelton lost 1-8 to Paulk and Beffu; and Haman and Kellee Manley fell 3-8 to Isbell and Kofron.

"Haman did an excellent job today," said Hart. "She played right with them, ball control, and made them make the mistakes. She did a super job."

Haman is undefeated in singles play this year.

In junior varsity, Sikeston won 5-4 to improve to 7-2-1 this season. Charlie Richey and Chelsea Gilliland were singles winners. The doubles teams of Thu Nguyen/Erica Carr; Jeri Nichols/Jamie Davidson; and Jessica Colwick/Erica Carr were all winners.

Sikeston will play at Kennett on Thursday at 4 p.m.
