First Baptist takes first in YMCA softball tourney

SIKESTON - The First Baptist Church men's YMCA Church League softball team took first place in the league tournament Thursday night.

After completing the regular season in second place with a record of 12-4, First Baptist downed First Assembly of God in the first round Tuesday night.

In the semifinal game Thursday night, First Baptist won a exciting game over First United Methodist 11-10, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to advance to the championship game against the regular season champions, Hunter Memorial Presbyterian.

Building an early lead, First Baptist used a tight defense to stifle the regular season champs and won the game and the tournament by the score of 12-2.

First Baptist was also awarded the sportsmanship trophy for the season.

Team members were: Mark Brock, Brian Dowdy, Jeff Ellis, Nick Hogan, Pate Hogan, David Jackson, David Jenkins, Jamie Malugen, Ronnie Mason, Adam Nelson, Shawn Stevens and John Stickley.
