SCOTT CITY - Two towboats collided, apparently in fog, on the Mississippi River, north of the Thebes, Ill. bridge. One of the boats reportedly was upside down in the river. Officers from Illinois and Missouri are searching for two persons believed missing. The report had not been confirmed as of 11 a.m. today.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's 14- and 15-year-old Junior Babe Ruth All-Stars secured a berth in the District 5 Tournament finals Wednesday, beating Dexter 8-0 behind Scooter Gilmore's two-hitter.

BENTON - The Benton Bullets won first place in the 13-15-year-old Babe Ruth league softball tournament. The Bullets also came in first place in league play with a 13-1 record for the season. The team consisted of: Pam Essner, Ashley Dirnberger, Crystal Hennamen, Ashley Beggs, Brittany Lambert, Natalie Robert, Molly McKinney, Cheryl Hubbert, Audrey Riley, Kimberly Riley, Amy Arteme and Raichelle Clubbs. The coaches were Mike Riley, Don Riley and Stan Essner.

EAST PRAIRIE - Tiffany Clayton, 5, recently won a Puttin' on the Hits contest in East Prairie. She performed "On the Good Ship Lollipop," taking third place in the 5-9-year-old category. She won $35.
