SIKESTON - Two car loads of wives and sweethearts are headed for the west coast to spend several weeks near loved ones. Among those leaving were Mrs. H.E. Dudley and son, Mrs. Jack Shelby, Mrs. Charles Beal, Mrs. T.C. Dye and sons and Mrs. E.P. Aldridge.
MARBLE HILL - The Sikeston Girls Basketball team and the undefeated team of Will Mayfield College played Friday at Marble Hill. Mayfield won 24-19.

SIKESTON - Admitted to Missouri Delta Community Hospital was David James, 41. He was reportedly hit by the side bed of a truck.

SIKESTON - Drivers are often surprised when they spot three 3,000-pound buffaloes along Interstate 55, north of Sikeston. The animals were purchased by Sikeston businessmen Steve and Frank Ferrell to keep high weeds trimmed on some of their property.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston City Council dove headfirst into a lengthy agenda Monday night, with a pair of water-related projects topping discussion. A large step toward a new city pool was taken by the council as Gipson Construction Company of Sikeston was awarded a bid of $409,678 for construction of a stainless steel pool with eight lanes, circulating gutter system and bathhouses. The Sikeston Jaycees donated $150,000 toward the project.
SIKESTON - Local schools are showing their support of school counselors in a variety of ways during National School Counselors Week, Feb. 3-7, including a display of banners indicating the theme, "Your School Counselor Cares" and offering daily incentives and notes of appreciation.
