Shooting death under investigation

NEW MADRID - An investigation continues into the death of a 28-year-old rural New Madrid woman this week.

According to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens, officers were notified at 5 p.m. Wednesday about an apparent shooting at a residence on County Road 726.

Once officers arrived, they found Tonya Wade Jordan who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy was performed Thursday but New Madrid County Coroner Tim Clayton has not yet made a ruling.

An investigation is being conducted by the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
