SIKESTON - Sikeston Public Schools will open Sept. 7, Superintendent R.A. Harper announced today.


SIKESTON - Pvt. John W. "Red" Davis has written his parents that he is in Station Hospital, Ward 2, Brookfield, Texas, for examination and observation and a possible operation. He injured his side while stationed at Camp Robinson, Ark. Since his transfer to Stinson Field, San Antonio, Texas, the injury has caused him much pain. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Davis of this city.

SIKESTON - Abram Hirschowitz, prominent business man, sportsman and former mayor of Oran, is spearheading a campaign to have a lake constructed in Scott County by Scott County outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in fishing and recreation.

SIKESTON - Sheila Coffey, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Coffey, is the Daily Standard's August Calendar Girl. Miss Coffee plans to attend Stephens College at Columbia and major in law following graduation. A graduate of Sikeston High School, she enjoyed band, history and physical education. The brown-haired, blue-green-eyed young woman was a Miss Sikeston finalist and enjoys various sports.

CHAFFEE - Dustin Redden threw a two-hitter, struck out 12 and hit a three-run home run in Sikeston' 8-4 win over Columbia here Friday night. The game was in the Senior Babe Ruth 16-year-old state tournament first round.
