Soccer team takes the field for red and black scrimmage
SIKESTON -- Sikeston's soccer team hosted the annual Red and Black soccer scrimmage on Tuesday, in preparation for the upcoming season.
The two teams were split between varsity and junior varsity players.
"It was mainly just for fun," explained Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "We had a little cookout with the parents."
The match ended in a 2-2 tie. Senior Tanner Fritz had a good day, scoring two goals.
"I thought our goal keeping was pretty good," said Long. "That has been a question mark so far this year. I thought we played alright."
Sikeston will open the 2002 season on Thursday in the Notre Dame Tournament.
"I don't know if we're ready, but we're ready to play somebody other than ourselves," said Long. "We probably won't be where we want to be until about the middle of the season, when we find out who plays well together."
