SIKESTON - Jenny Jenkins of Sikeston has been awarded a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in recognition of outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., which represents the early childhood profession.

CDA is the only major national effort to improve child care by evaluation and recognizing the skills of individuals providing care.

Parents who use child care are especially concerned today about their children's welfare. With this in mind, as part of the CDA assessment process, as a candidate for the CDA credential, Jenkins was observed working with young children or families by an early childhood professional. In addition, Jenkins demonstrated the ability to work with families to develop children's physical and intellectual capabilities in a safe and healthy learning environment.

Jenkins is employed as assistant director at Care A Lot Learning Center in Kelso, where she also teaches 5-year-olds.

NEW MADRID - Timmie Lynn Hunter of New Madrid has been re-elected for a second term as president of the Missouri Port Authority Association during a meeting conducted June 25.

Hunter is executive director of the New Madrid County Port Authority.

SIKESTON - Vicki Curtis, licensed practical nurse and administrator of A Plus Inc. Home Services, and Lisa Shanle, licensed practical nurse supervisor, attended the Division of Senior Services In-Home Provider Conference July 10-12 in Jefferson City.

Both women received provider rectification at the conference.

SIKESTON - Margaret Dorris and Sandria Costin have joined Mitchell Real Estate as real estate agents.

Dorris has been an active agent for the past 24 years while Costin has been working in the real estate field for the past 11 years. Both agreed buying or selling a home is one of the most important transactions in an individual's life and stated they would like to use their experience to make the process go smoothly for those either buying or selling.

SIKESTON - Julie Summers-Day has accepted the position of social services director at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston.

"Julie's experience in the health care field is what made her an excellent choice for the position," said Nancy Driskill, administrator.

Summers-Day previously worked in medical equipment leasing and for six years as a medical assistant in Dr. Stephen Welton's office. She, her husband and their daughter reside in East Prairie.

"It is a great facility and I look forward to working all the residents and families," said Summers-Day.

Hunter Acres Caring Center is located at the intersection of North West and Wakefield.

MALDEN - Edward Eschenweck has graduated from the Southern Missouri Truck Driving School following a four-week tractor trailer driving course.

Eschenweck, who graduated with a 90 grade point average, is a resident of East Prairie. He was instructed by Chester Graham.

ESSEX - Ronald L. Ledbetter of Essex, a representative for Modern Woodmen of America, is one of a small percentage of life insurance agents worldwide to achieve membership in the Million Dollar Round Table this year.

Membership is one of the highest professional honors a life insurance representative can obtain. MDRT members demonstrate high-level client service and production, company officials said.

Modern Woodmen of America is a fraternal life insurance society headquartered in Rock Island, Ill. The organization offers life insurance and annuities for family financial security and fraternal service programs for communities.

SIKESTON - Hope Terrell has joined Merideth Realty as a sales associate.

A lifelong resident of Sikeston, Terrell has been active in many community organizations and programs, most notably as a former fundraiser for the Arts and Education Council and a longtime board member of the Sikeston Little Theater. She is married to Jim Terrell, who retired as a captain for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Terrell has been a Realtor for 17 years and for the past 12 years associated with McMikle Real Estate.

POPLAR BLUFF - Kean Donald Griffith, M.D., F.A.C.S., has joined the staff of Three Rivers Healthcare as a general, oncologic and vascular surgeon.

Griffith is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology. He performs general, vascular, laparoscopic and thoracic surgery. He specializes in surgery for cancer. His office is located at Kneibert Clinic.

From Evansville, Ind., where he was a surgeon at Welborn Clinic, he is a native of Southern Illinois.

Griffith received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Ill. He completed a general surgery residency, including chief residency, at Barnes hospital/Washington University.
