Bo Bates

CAVE SPRING, Ga. - Timothy Lynn "Bo" Bates, 41, formerly of Portageville, Mo., died Nov. 30, 2002.

Born April 1, 1961, in Waterveliot, Mich., son of Charles and Iona Dowdy Bates Sr., he lived in Portageville for 15 years, where he was a member of the Portageville Jaycees, served on the Portageville Park Board committee, was a member of the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and was the Portageville baseball junior and senior league commissioner for many years. He had held various construction management positions while living in Portageville and had been a superintendent with the J and D Grading Company in Adairsville. He served with the U.S. Army from 1979-1982 and in the U.S. Army National Guard for one year.

Survivors in addition to his parents include: two sons, Christopher Bates and Cory Bates of Portageville; one sister, Becky Bates Norris of New Caney, Texas; five brothers, Charles Bates Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robbie Bates of Coloma, Mich., Scott Bates of Cave Spring, Russell Bates of Detroit, Mich., and Kevin Bates of Acworth; and his maternal grandmother, Virgie Dowdy of St. Louis, Mo.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Henderson and Sons Funeral Home in Cave Springs, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Vines will officiate.

American Legion Post No. 5 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites at Rome Memorial Park.
